Image Deconstruction & Reconstruction

EPFL LAPIS, Theory and Techniques of Architectural Figuration, Spring 2024

For this visualization and scene composition project, I explored the spatial and material logic of a Dutch Golden Age painting: Interior of a Townhouse, (attributed to Cornelius de Man, ca. 1670). This project started with a compositional analysis and a study on the dutch townhouse typology. With this foundation, the goal was to reverse engineer the scene depicted in the painting and reconstruct a digital version the space, objects, materials and lighting. The final production included a digital visualization of the painting, and a diptych which reveals the hidden far left corner of the space.
